Weekend Core
Scattered outfits, pre-fall cravings, and resisting the urge to buy everything new
This weekend in particular, I had a realization while revisiting one too many barely worn seasonal pieces in my closet: a humbling reminder of how easy it is to overbuy. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t already made a few fall purchases (more on that below), but repeat after me—there’s no pressure to have everything figured out by the first week of September.
Get ready to see me wear this scarf in every possible way, though I definitely need to practice my tying skills because this one could have been improved.

I’ve officially hit summer outfit exhaustion but I know I’ll miss the chance to wear these pants once the season is gone. Since I’ve worn them to death over the past two summers, I’m debating the longer version for early fall, styled with clogs instead of sandals. Consider this a reminder: don’t make my mistake of prioritizing the setting over your own mood.

I know I’m sounding like a broken record about brown, but I truly can’t help it. And while we’re at it let’s add ballet flats to my hyper-fixation list. I’m already on my third color-way of this style, and can tell they’re going to be put to work. For a similar elevated vibe in flats, but a lighter commitment, I’m a fan of this brand.
This Week in Wellness
A highlight from my week was finally going for a smoothing treatment on my hair, thanks to guidance from a chic friend who, if you don’t already know her, is the definition of a beauty guru. Even though she’s in LA, her expertise gave me the confidence to book with my stylist in SF. I had literally just gotten a haircut the week before, but knew this needed to happen.
Not necessarily a wellness treatment per se, but I’d argue that anything to cut down on the time spent getting ready enhances overall wellbeing. Finally having the option to air dry my hair is actually life changing.
I’m also always experimenting with what new supplements to take and learning the latest on what to avoid. Almost every protein powder out there is questionable to say the least, but I’ve been really liking this one for my daily yogurt bowl. Matcha flavor is my personal favorite but vanilla is great too (and MWH approved!)
Since we’re talking ingredients, this week I also met the founder of probably the cleanest skincare line on the market. Not fully ready to ditch my favorite clinical grade products but I’m always open to a cleaner option where it makes sense. I was gifted the barrier restore cream and cold cream cleanser, and so far I’m intrigued to try more.
I’ve mentioned this before, but missing a few days of this routine is definitely noticeable. My subscription didn’t line up as perfectly as it usually does last week and I was basically stalking the tracking information until arrival. I’m also keen to try the brand’s skin hydration support supplement that more than one friend has raved about.

Trying my best not to go overboard, but fall is the best season for fashion. Though it doesn’t require a full reinvention. Some of my favorite fall pieces are items I’ve had for years and have already worn to death (like this trench). A few fresh sweaters, dark denim, some cords, and maybe one great bag or coat are usually enough to carry you through most of the season.

I’m over the endless search for the “perfect” jeans, but this fit is one I already know and love and the wash feels unique enough to keep things interesting. Since sweaters and denim can get monotonous in winter, a few pairs that feel a little more special make a big difference IMO!
Same with shoes. Too much online scrolling occasionally pays off (or so I tell myself) like finding current-season boots for less than half off (probably a mistake, but I wasn’t asking). They come in a few versions, but the taller height is the one worth keeping. I tried the shorter pair earlier this year and sent them back as they were surprisingly tricky to style.
Per the “great bag” item on my fall list, I got a few DMs asking about the Marlo after sharing this photo, and my feelings are a little mixed. I like that the scale of the size 14 works on my petite frame, and it holds everything and more including my 13” Macbook. That said, the silhouette can get a little lost under the shoulder, and it’s not the most practical to carry by the top handles when full.
Overall, it’s a chic, everyday tote and really versatile, though I think the larger 17 in smooth leather reads more luxe. Unfortunately that size is too impractical for me, but if it works for you, let me live vicariously! It is worth noting my husband (who never comments on bags) has mentioned more than once how chic the size 14 looks, which definitely changed how I’m looking at it.
Other weekend highlights always include some fresh air/touching grass and a full cart of whatever’s in season. Agree or am I dramatic?
Finally, I need some outside input to end a very important debate at home:

Love this! Where is your first taupe sweater from? The high v!
