Although it never really seems to get easier, I've learned that when it comes to packing less truly is more. Thinking back to trips where I manically overpacked, I can remember feeling physically (and mentally) bogged down by the volume of literal baggage I had with me. Trips where I packed perhaps too lightly forced me to get creative with what I had—resulting in outfit combinations I likely wouldn't have thought of before, while also gaining the satisfaction of repeatedly wearing and using wardrobe staples as they should be.
If you find yourself struggling with decision fatigue while packing, I encourage you to try eliminating the bulk using my capsule wardrobe trick. It's never fun to pack, but this streamlined approach really does make the process somewhat less overwhelming.
All this to say, I am back from a quick 3-days in New York and wanted to share what was packed, what was worn, and a few trip highlights. On the agenda were a couple of meetings over matcha, a dinner out, and of course squeezing in some leisurely time to shop and enjoy the city.
In My Suitcase

My general approach is to keep the contents of my suitcase as fluid as possible (within reason). I do this by building core outfits around my itinerary and then taking a step back to see where I can connect the dots—whether that means eliminating any redundancy or adding in an alt. that would allow for a seamless secondary backup look. Knowing that I have options puts my mind at ease, but I'm able to keep myself in check by making sure every item is serving a purpose instead of simply taking up space.
A few noteworthy items:
If I'm traveling, these are coming with me every time. They are without doubt the best Gala dupe on the market and I reach for them constantly (code: HELENB10)
These were a part of my outfit on multiple mornings, I may or may not wear them out in public under sunglasses to reap the full benefits. (code: HELEN20)
All-in-one skincare is the most ideal when traveling; this overachiever serum noticeably reduced redness and this miracle moisturizer worked overtime to avoid any signs of dehydration. My hands are chronically dry, so this was a daily staple in my bag to apply while on the go. (code: HELEN20)
These are the only socks I am reaching for lately. I think they're the perfect weight for Spring and look super cool slouched down.
I love taking this with me on trips when I can—it’s safer for clothing than traditional irons and cuts the time spent combating wrinkles in half. (code: working on this, stay tuned!)

A Few Trip Highlights
Of course a visit to a Still Here storefront was top on my list. The NoLIta space is incredibly cool and it's clear why everyone is talking about the brand. Their new sweatshirt has me in a chokehold—I'm already onto my second color—and have been wearing the navy for the past 3 days straight. I'm telling you the fit is just that good and the styling opportunities are endless.

My interest in jewelry has been growing, particularly in the cuff department. AGMES has a gorgeous array of sculptural pieces that nails the minimalist approach with a twist. I went in for the cliff cuff and proceeded to fall in love with almost everything I tried on, including this bracelet that feels perfect for daily wear.

If you know me personally, you know that I am wellness obsessed. Perusing the isles of Happier Grocery was the most aesthetically pleasing grocery experience and left me debating how I could bring more speciality items back to San Francisco. Another super-clean, casual food option worth noting is Rooted. I’ll do anything to avoid seed-oil and all of the menu options are made with 7 ingredients or less (!) and prepared exclusively with olive-oil. This was a huge win in my book.

I’ll be back in the city later this month and can’t wait! Stay tuned for Part 2 soon.
